Needless to say, we jumped right on making changes in that space as soon as we moved in. I chose a safe choice that I liked at the time – white cabinets with dark brown glaze. Very traditional.
A Change In Decor Styles
Well since then my decor tastes have slowly gravitated toward what I like to call Bohemian Farmhouse style. I still like some of the traditional farmhouse elements of decor, but I also LOVE incorporating bold colors and patterns in the midst of it all.
I found this rooster wall art at Hobby Lobby. I love that it is a traditional farmhouse style looking rooster and has the rustic wood element, but has the bold colors I love of the bohemian style and I began to use that to transform areas of our home.
One of my favorite decor colors I have fallen for in this process is deep teals. I added throw pillows to our couch in a deep teal velvety fabric. Then one day I was watching Fixer Upper on HGTV and Joanna Gaines was remodeling a house for her sister. She painted some cabinets in a teal color and all of a sudden I had a strong desire to paint our kitchen island in a bohemian teal! Does that happen to anyone else? lol
I will say this about the paint color — it was a bear to get on. I think I went through a quart and a half in order to get the coverage it needed over the white. Dark colors can be that way sometimes. There are even still a couple places that look streaky to me, but I was over it and ready to be done. Four and a half coats on the entire thing, plus topcoat. I did add some black glaze in the details of the drawers and doors for a little added depth, but it’s just barely noticeable.
What do you think? Would you do a bold color like this in your home?
If you want to try adding this color on something you own, I would suggest trying Prussian Blue from Wise Owl Chalk Synthesis Paint. It is a similar beautiful teal color and in my opinion the coverage is better with this brand’s darker paint colors. You can purchase it HERE.
