I feel like the luckiest girl to have had the opportunity to make over this amazing Henredon buffet. It has the longest sleek legs and the most beautiful curved front. The doors curve inward along the lines of the front and the beautiful drawers curve out.
Speaking of drawers, yes, I said drawers – plural. That middle detail on the bottom is an actual functional drawer!

Before
When this piece came to me it had that ugly outdated what I like to call “spotted” finish. You know the one. It’s a wood finish but it has these little black flecks or spots all over it.
Stripping To Raw Wood
I had to know what was underneath that awful spotted finish and I’m so glad I went the extra mile to find out!
Can you even believe how beautiful that wood grain is on those drawer fronts?! And that top!! It is seriously drool worthy.
I used Green EZ Remover furniture stripper to remove the finish and it worked beautifully.
The Paint
I used Wise Owl Paint Stain Eliminating Primer in Gray, and then One Hour Enamel in the color Poseidon for the body of this piece to give it a fun color, but not too bold. This deep dark teal will fit easily into almost any decor scheme.
The Details
I had to add my fun pop of pattern of course to the door fronts using some old paper I had from a few years back that I found from Spoonflower. I stripped the detail wood trim around the edge of the doors and left that bare to frame the patterned paper.
The One Hour Enamel doesn’t need a topcoat. It has a beautiful not quite satin sheen to it that’s just perfect. The bare wood areas I decided to leave raw because I loved the light tone of it. I just sealed those areas with Wise Owl Paint One Hour Enamel Clear in the matte sheen to maintain that raw look.
The hardware on the doors is new from Hobby Lobby. I kept the original hardware for the top drawer and just updated it a bit with a mixture of Wise Owl Heavy Metals Metallics Gilding Paint in Copper and Rose Gold. Then I added some Black Walnut glaze to tone down the shimmer a bit. I didn’t want the hardware to have too much contrast with the drawer front, but also wanted it to tie in to the colors in the pattern on the doors.
I think it turned out so beautiful and it was so fun to see it all come together a little bit at a time.
