Today’s blog is all about simple storage solutions for organizing your home. It’s January and I don’t know about you, but I typically feel the urge to purge this time of year and really get my home in order.
I think this year the urge was even stronger due to allllllll the toys and gifts we received at Christmas from family. (I used to wonder how my friends and family with littles could end up with so. much. stuff. Now I know and somewhere someone is laughing at me for those pre-parenthood sentiments .)
In my quest to organize my home I wanted to share some of the storage and organization solutions I’ve found that have really helped me.
Storage Solutions For Collections
I found this storage unit on Amazon to organize all of our little guy’s toys.
It works great and it’s so nice to be able to group like toys together so that everything has a home. He can see all his toys as opposed to some of them being buried at the bottom of a bin and he has easy access to them.
We put this inside his closet so that it’s out of sight but easy for him to get to when he wants to play.
This hasn’t arrived yet, but I cannot wait to get all my gift wrapping supplies put away and organized in this in a few days! In my efforts to purge I have come across even more ribbon and tissue paper than I knew I had and it all needs a home together (clearly, since I bought more thinking I didn’t have any. Have you done that too?)
Once I have all my stuff organized in this it can slide under our bed or in the top of a closet until we need it again.
This one holds wrapping paper rolls up to 40″ long and that’s why I chose it over some of the others I saw. I have a couple rolls of wrapping paper that are always just laying on top of the plastic container I was using because they didn’t fit.
I was influenced to buy this makeup organizer a while back and LOVE it.
This is a recurring theme, but I was bad about buying more of some products thinking I didn’t have any, only to find later that I had an entire new bottle hidden away somewhere. Ugh.
This way I can see everything I have and it’s tidy and easily accessible. It rotates and fits perfectly in the corner on top of my bathroom counter. Definitely recommend!
Storage Solutions For The Kitchen
Several months ago I decided to organize our pantry and these Oxo Pop containers have been AMAZING.
I put everything from goldfish crackers to baking goods (chocolate chips, pecans, baking soda, sugar, etc.) to pasta.
The tall ones are great for spaghetti. And the cereal containers hold an entire regular size box of cereal.
This is a label maker that I found on Amazon and used to label the Oxo containers.
It’s been so nice to designate containers for certain things and I even labeled a shelf for breakfast items so that everyone in our home can remember that breakfast items go on that shelf. It really helps to keep the organization longer for just a couple of minutes. lol
The label maker comes with white tape, but I ordered the black tape because I wanted black labels with white print.
These food storage containers have been sooooooo helpful for keeping our refrigerator organized! I love so many things about them.
They are glass which feels nicer and will last longer than the plastic ones we used to have. You can see clearly what is inside them without having to open them.
The lids are great for making sure the seal is air tight and you can stack them so nicely inside your refrigerator or your cabinet when you’re not using them.
They come in a set of 10. The glass is dishwasher safe, lids should be hand washed (super easy). These are also freezer safe. I have used them to freeze sauces I’ve made and they work great.
More Organization & Storage Solutions
I realize this is not a storage solution. However, it IS helpful for getting all those papers organized! (Does anyone else seem to always have a mountain of papers to file or get rid of??)
I think dealing with papers is probably our least favorite thing that has to be done so we let it get out of control. There are lots of papers that we prefer to shred as opposed to throwing them in the trash and our old shredder has been out of commission for quite some time so the shredding pile was a little embarrassing.
We just got this shredder and while it may be a tad bit overkill for home office shredding, it makes the shredding task so much easier.
Our previous shredder could barely keep up when I would do our end of the year purging and shredding. This one can shred up to 15 sheets of paper at one time!! Plus it can shred CDs and credit cards. No need to remove staples – it will shred those too.
It comes in other sizes so if you want to get a smaller, cheaper one you can get this same model but with less space in the bin and fewer sheets able to be shredded at one time. I think there are 4 or 5 different size options available.
This isn’t necessarily helpful for organizing your home, but when you are traveling these packing cubes will keep your suitcase super tidy. I love them so much I have two sets.
It’s so helpful for packing our little guy’s clothes separate from my clothes and keeping like things together.
It’s also helpful if you have an overnight stop somewhere on your trip (staying one night in a hotel room for example) because you can pack your “overnight bag” into one of these cubes and just take the cube inside instead of your entire suitcase.
We got this little storage locker over a year ago and it’s been great for storing all our stuff for the dog.We keep her leash, toys, dog food, etc. in it. It stays on our screened porch and would also be great in a garage.
It could also be great for storing grilling stuff, pool toys, or anything else that doesn’t have a home and just needs a small cabinet.
This is another storage solution I’ve been using for over a year.
I bought this to put inside a closet where I keep home decor that is not being used all the time (seasonal stuff). The closet has a hanging rod and one shelf up top.
I needed more shelving to store more stuff and make better use and organization of the bottom of the closet since we don’t really use it for hanging things in.
This shelving unit has been great and I actually want to order one more to put next to it in the same closet.
Hopefully these simple storage solutions are helpful to you. An organized home makes for a lighter mind in my opinion and it’s a constant work in progress over here, but these items have certainly helped us!
